American Indian Youth Services Literature Award https://ailanet.org/activities/american-indian-youth-literature-award/ Awarded by the American Indian Library Association Biennially (every 2 years); next award year is 2024
Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature https://www.apalaweb.org/awards/literature-awards/winners/ From the Asian/Pacific American Librarians Association (APALA) Annually on works published between September 1st of a given year and August 31st of the next year. Awards announced at ALA LibLearnX in January.
Batchelder Award https://www.ala.org/alsc/awardsgrants/bookmedia/batchelder For outstanding children’s books originally published in a language other than English in a country other than the United States. Annually based on works of the preceding year; announced at Midwinter Meeting of ALA in January.
Caldecott Medal https://www.ala.org/alsc/awardsgrants/bookmedia/caldecott Goes to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children. Anually by the Children's and School Librarians Sections of the American Library Association and announced at the Youth Media Awards in January.
Charlotte Huck Award https://ncte.org/awards/ncte-childrens-book-awards/charlotte-huck-award/ The NCTE Award for Outstanding Fiction for Children The award is presented annually by the Charlotte Huck Award Committee at the Children’s Book Awards Luncheon during the NCTE Annual Convention in November.
Coretta Scott King Book Awards https://www.ala.org/rt/emiert/cskbookawards Given annually to outstanding African American authors and illustrators of books for children and young adults. ALA Annual Conference in June.
Jane Addams Children's Book Award https://www.janeaddamschildrensbookaward.org/ Awards given to children's books published the preceding year that effectively promote the cause of peace, social justice, world community, and the equality of the sexes and all races as well as meeting conventional standards for excellence. Annually in April.
Michael L. Printz Award https://www.ala.org/yalsa/printz For books that exemplify literary excellence in young adult literature. Annually based on works of the preceding year; announced at Midwinter Meeting of ALA in January.
Newbery Medal https://www.ala.org/alsc/awardsgrants/bookmedia/newbery Awarded yearly to the author of the most distinguished contribution to American literature for children. Annually by the Association for Library Service to Children and announced at the Youth Media Awards in January.
Orbis Pictus Award https://ncte.org/awards/orbis-pictus-award-nonfiction-for-children/ A NCTE award that recognizes excellence in the writing of nonfiction for children. The award is presented annually at the NCTE Annual Convention in November.
Pura Belpré https://www.ala.org/alsc/awardsgrants/bookmedia/belpre Presented annually to an outstanding Latino/Latina writer and illustrator. Annually at the ALA Annual Conference in June.
Rainbow Award https://glbtrt.ala.org/rainbowbooks/ Noteworthy LGBTQIA+ books for children and teens. Annually in January.
Schneider Family Award https://www.ala.org/awardsgrants/schneider-family-book-award Books portraying the disability experience for child and adolescent audiences. Annually during ALA Midwinter Conference in January.
Theodor Seuss Geisel Award https://www.ala.org/alsc/awardsgrants/bookmedia/geisel The Theodor Seuss Geisel Award is given annually to the author(s) and illustrator(s) of the most distinguished American book for beginning readers published in English in the United States during the preceding year. Annually in January.
National Book Awards for Young People's Literature https://www.nationalbook.org/awards-prizes/national-book-awards-2022/?cat=ypl The National Book Awards celebrate the best writing in America. The Awards currently honors the best Fiction, Nonfiction, Poetry, Translated Literature, and Young People’s Literature published each year. Annually in October.
Stonewall Book Award - Mike Morgan & Larry Romans Children’s & Young Adult Literature Award https://www.ala.org/awardsgrants/stonewall-book-awards-mike-morgan-larry-romans-children%E2%80%99s-young-adult-literature-award The Stonewall Book Awards are presented to English language books that have exceptional merit relating to the LGBTQIA+ experience. Annually at the ALA Annual Conference in June.
The Sydney Taylor Book Award (Picture Book Award Winner) https://www.sydneytaylorshmooze.com/p/winners.html The Sydney Taylor Book Award was established in memory of Sydney by her husband Ralph, and continues to be supported by her daughter Jo. The Association of Jewish Libraries presents the award each year to the best in Jewish children's and teen literature. Annually in January.
